At first glance, Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s proposal to auction off President elect Obama’s former senate seat may appear to be without merit. In fact, some may view the action as ‘just not right’.

But let us not jump to conclusions without examining the proposed practice from a more enlightened and possibly global view.

Since 1992 when Ross Perot, spent almost $64 million on a run for the White House, the rich and superrich have been busy spending their wealth on quests for the ultimate celebrity roles (at least in their minds) elected office.

A tally of just a handful of these hopefuls rings up a lot of cash:

– Al Checchi, – Governor of California – $40 million

– Jon S. Corzine, US Senate $63 million + $38 million New Jersey Governor

– Michael Bloomberg, – Mayor – New York City – $69 million

– Michael Huffington – US Senate – $30 million

– Steve Forbes – White House – $38 million

That’s $342,000,000 including Ross Perot.

Six guys coughed up on average 50 million bucks apiece to have the honor of holding public office.

Governor Blagojevich’s alleged comment that these positions are far too valuable to give away, is right on the money … excuse me make that ‘is a reasonable statement’.

Think of the absurd amounts of money spent on this past Presidential election, the conservative estimates approach 3 billion bucks, from the primaries, with their countless candidates, through the race to November 4th.

Who got that treasure trove? Not the poor voters nor the near bankrupt government coffers, no sir, the beneficiaries were media outlets, lawyers, speech writers, makeup and wardrobe folk, image consultants, tailors, hair stylists, etc.

3 billion bucks to create an image that may or may not represent the reality of the candidate.

So 3 billion bucks is spent by these ambitious people to get to the highest political position in the world and the electorate really has no idea if the product is really, what they think it is, they only see what the 3 billion bucks bought as an image.

From where I sit, there would be no greater risk of winding up with someone we don’t like or want were we to hold an auction for every political position in the country.

The money would be earmarked for the creation and maintenance of recreational facilities to afford the poor citizens of this great country a mechanism to escape the disasters the politicians continue to create.

Think about it 100 senators at say 50 million a pop, plus 435 members of the House at say 35 million a pop. That’s over 20 billion bucks just for those two small groups of political posts.

Add to that the tens of thousands of politicians in state, county, city, town, village and hamlet governing bodies. There would be enough money for every state in the union to have its own massive theme park in the first year alone. Forget term limits, bidding starts afresh when the politician’s term ends. My goodness, the fund would be replenished every 2, 4 or 6 years.

As an added benefit, since these ambitious ladies and gentlemen can afford to buy the office at the highest bid their salary would be one dollar a year.

Don’t write off my version of Governor Blagojevich’s idea with the wave of a hand and the comment “He’s crazy”.

The country would be in no worse shape than it is today and since these successful bidders would be accustomed to spending their own money to get what they wanted, maybe they would be less apt to spend ours.

In parting today let me ask you to give the idea some thought. Isn’t it just a modification of the political process in this country as it has evolved over the last 50 or so years? Aren’t most of the elected officials at any level of government in their jobs because they could outspend their competition with either their money or somebody else’s money?

Well let’s just modify the process so that we all benefit from that spending, not just the hair and makeup people and the speechwriters.

My wife, who I always run my weekly articles by, said this article sounded preachy. That is sort of the point. If you are one of my regular readers, you know that I have no qualms about being blunt – which also happens to sound “preachy” at times. But maybe, considering this week’s article is about aspects of the Christian faith it may be a little more preachy than usual. If you think it is too preachy, then oh well! If discussion of Christianity bothers you, then double oh well.

According to the gospels, Jesus implies that it is deeds and not just words that are required to enter into the kingdom of Heaven and that to generate “grace” one must do good works and do so freely. Some modern day sects of Christianity disagree, preaching instead an unconditional grant of this blessing by God just by virtue of the fact that all of us are his children and that by simply claiming to believe in Jesus Christ we shall enter into Heaven. I strongly disagree. God and his only son, Jesus Christ, are not the “do as I say, not as I do” types and I find it very hard to believe that God would except such as a valid excuse from those awaiting entrance into the hereafter.

People who deny the need for good works will quote passages like Ephesians 2:8-9 ,”For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

But the truth is that believing in Christ itself imparts an inherent duty to follow his teachings and to do as he did to the best of our human ability. Christ helped people. He himself did good works. You cannot say to God, “But I believe in Christ and his teachings,” when you did nothing to show that you really do believe in such things. Words are great. But deeds are the ultimate proof of concept and your faith.

Our faith, if it is true, dictates that we do indeed do good works. What passages like Ephesians say is that simply doing good works is not enough. You must be doing them with a faith in Christ and accepting him as your savior.

When I talk to liberals who fancy themselves as Christians while promoting their big government ideas, forced wealth redistribution plans, and other socialist programs, the reasoning that they often give to me as to why they believe in such things is that they are just being “good Christians”. They just see themselves as doing God’s will and that they are doing good works. They believe that far too many are not capable of doing these good works without their guidance. They believe that by levying taxes on Americans, including themselves, and using that money to help others that they are doing God’s work and are doing good deeds that they will be rewarded for. Well, they may want to go back to their Bibles and get out of their left wing Churches because, I am sad to say, nothing could be further from the truth.

Often those on the left cringe at having their “Christian” credentials challenged and will hurl the typical admonishment about not judging others less I also be judged. I have often proudly said that I am very secure in my relationship with God. So with that said once again, I say very confidently to let that judgment of me be swift and true and that I certainly do not fear it.

As a Christian, but a non-denominational Christian because I have grown to distrust so many of the organized churches over the years, I believe that, like my liberal acquaintances, generating grace is the means to entering Heaven. But for me, grace is generated by not only professing a belief in Jesus Christ as one’s savior, but by also doing as he and those that followed him in life taught us. This includes doing good deeds to others.

A reader to my website recently reminded me of one particular admonishment that Christians, particularly liberal “Christians” who think that by using taxes and government to “help” through coerced “giving”, should take note of. This admonishment comes from 2 Corinthians.

“Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” 9:7

Let us remember this. It does not say God loves, and gives grace to, those that are coerced to give or those that force others to give. It says that God loves those that have decided in their hearts to give. This means that if you are a liberal who thinks that you will be rewarded in the next life because you promoted high taxes and wealth redistribution plans to force yourself and others to give, then think again. You have not done the right thing in God’s eyes.

This is not the only example of how Christians are commanded to act when it comes to charitable giving and helping others. Proverbs 11:24-25 tells us once again that those that give freely, without coercion, are favored by God.

“One man gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.”

Once again, nothing about being forced to give, forcing others to give or being forced to give is seen here as being a means to gaining favor with the Almighty. Also, we are told clearly again that good works do indeed reward us.

And there is another passage of which I am reminded of from Matthew which speaks of the same ideals. But this passage goes even further. It tells us that those that give not for the recognition of having given and helped their fellow man, but that give in private are the ones that are truly blessed with God’s grace.

“Be careful not to do your ‘acts of righteousness’ before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

I would say this is pretty clear and that if you are one of those “Christians” that are constantly running around promoting enforced giving through wealth redistribution and social welfare programs and on top of that running to the microphones (like our elected officials so often do) to let everyone know that you are doing these things and talking about how you are doing them in God’s name, then you have received your own shallow reward. But you are gaining no favor with our Father in Heaven.

Now, I understand that all of this that I have talked about this week is meaningless to some. They will continue to believe that they are “‘good Christians” just like Nancy Pelosi will continue to believe that the issue of when life begins has not been settled by her church of choice, the Catholic Church, even after being shown to be wrong and told so very bluntly by those in positions of authority within the church itself that she is wrong. That is basically the definition of a liberal though; one that will believe what they want to believe even in the face of all logic and reason.

Just remember that God is all knowing and all seeing. And you cannot scrub that which is shameful from your resume come judgment day. And if you coerced others into giving as you decide they should, force yourself to give because you cannot bring yourself to do so freely in your own heart and above all else do so for the public recognition of having given then just please remember that you are not quite as “Christian” as you believe yourself to be.

Here\’s a newsflash, we are all going to die! That\’s right! It\’s true! Haven\’t thought about it lately? Well, every now and then you should, because so many of us live our lives like we\’re going to live forever, and this my friends is a very dangerous way to exist. Let me explain my position on the matter. This is not a practice run! THIS IS YOUR LIFE, RIGHT NOW, you\’re living it as you read this. The clocks-a-ticking all of the time. The day you were born your life expiration meter began it\’s countdown towards your undeniable, inescapable, final breath. It\’s going to happen, and it\’s a very sobering thought indeed!

Why am I telling you this? What could possibly be my point? Everyday I see so many people just simply existing, just getting by with little more than a pulse! I see so many individuals with absolutely no sense of purpose, no real central life plan of attack, no sense of urgency, a sort of lethargic existence, and it truly amazes me! It saddens me. These people want the same things from life as I do (more money, happiness, financial security for retirement, a nice home and nice car etc.), but so many are unwilling, for what ever reason, to take the necessary ACTION needed to realize these Dreams! Why is this? Are they in some sort of trance? Has life just worn them down and they\’ve given-up? I don\’t know the reason, but I do know they need AWAKENED! NOW!

The very fact that we only get one shot at this life should, by itself, be enough of a reason to motivate the masses, but so many people live their lives like they have all the time in the world to reach they\’re goals. Too many people live their lives with that \”I\’ll get around to it someday\” attitude. Well it seems to me that there is no time like the present, would you not agree? Why put off until tomorrow, what you can do today, right?! So, going back to the opening line of this rant, the very fact that we are all going to die someday should be a fantastic catalyst for pursuing and living a full, meaningful, and prosperous life! It\’s a good thing!

I live my life on purpose, yes indeed!! My life, so far, has been one giant adventure designed by ME, and NOBODY else but ME! An incredible roller coaster ride that has had extreme highs, some extreme lows, and everything in-between! I try to live everyday of my life like it\’s going to be my last, because you never know, it just may be! That may seem a little sad to some people, but it\’s TRUE, and well, that\’s life!

So let\’s see, how about a quick snap-shot of my life. Okay, I\’ve owned ten or so different companies, some very successful, some not so successful. I have raised two incredible children and have watched them grow into beautiful and talented young women. I\’ve traveled to exotic places more times than I can count with my family and friends! I\’ve experienced personal and corporate bankruptcies and rebounded by taking the risks that are sometimes necessary to get ahead in business and life. I make no apologies about it and I\’m not ashamed of it! You and I are NOT OUR PAST MISTAKES! I SAY GET OVER IT AND GET ON WITH IT! All of this and I\’m still under the age of 50. I\’m telling you all of this so you can paint a real picture of who I am, so you get to know the real me better. I am the poster-child for excessive compulsive behavior!

And by the way, I saw most of my current life long before it actually became my current reality! I did this and continue to do this, through the practice of positive mental imaging. It\’s what Author Dr. Wayne Dyer calls \”Manifesting your Destiny\” (great book!) and what author Bob Proctor calls \”The Power of Attraction\”. \”the power to attract everything and anything we want, and sometimes DO NOT want, into our lives\”! Boiled down, \”what we think about, comes about\”, our thoughts become our reality! But more on that topic some other time.

I know this rant is a little off base from my usual topic of real estate wholesaling, but it really does tie directly into yours and my reality of becoming successful real estate investors. Let me explain. Living our lives without being passionately on purpose about something renders us as useless as a \”boat without a rudder\”! It leaves us just floating around in the middle of an ocean (our lives) with no REAL direction, no map, and no destination in life! And that\’s so sad. I meet people every day in my business that are living this way. Is this you? You need to ask yourself this question and be totally, brutally honest with yourself. Because if it is you, you need to start doing something about it a.s.a.p.! The clock is still ticking and it does not care that you don\’t care!

I spend a lot of my spare time reading books, watching videos, and listening to cd\’s on the topics of self motivation, positive thinking, and business discipline. I cannot remember a single day in the last 20 years when I have not taken time to read, listen, or watch something that helps keep me on the path towards my dreams and life goals. One of my biggest goals in life has always been to achieve Financial Independence. By achieving this I would then have the freedom to do whatever I want to do when I want to do it! And that my friends IS THE ULTIMATE LIFESTYLE, would you not agree?!

This quest for financial freedom and total independence is the reason I get out of bed every single day! I am totally, passionately on purpose about living life on my terms and nobody else\’s! Do you feel me? Is this you? Could this be you? It should be!

I realize that my life meter is ticking away, counting-down, and I only have this one lifetime to accomplish my goals. I understand that this is not a practice run. Hell, I was 18 years old yesterday and today I\’m 48, were did that time go?! This is where everything starts and ends for me. I understand that if I do not do it for myself, NOBODY else is going to do it for me. I take total responsibility for EVERYTHING, good or bad, that happens in my life and I realize that I have personally attracted whatever good or bad is part of my current reality, PERIOD! I do not play the \”Blame Game\”!

Whoooo! That felt good! Boiled down, all I\’m saying here is that it\’s up to YOU and nobody else to create your own life as you want it to be! And, there is NO TIME LIKE THE PRESENT to start pursuing your DREAMS and GOALS. Start TODAY if haven\’t already, and live your life like you mean it! GET ON PURPOSE ABOUT SOMETHING! TAKE SOME ACTION! You\’re times-a-wasting!
